Technique: Classifying Records How did we create this? SEARCHES:

• For this particular example, we used a combined chart of COVID-19 vaccine records with data from Adis, Citeline, Clarivate, and GlobalData. This recipe starts with the data in Reference Rows. If you would like to follow along, you can import any supported data source, but you may not have the same source columns available. BIZINT SMART CHARTS REFERENCE ROWS (OR BIZINT SMART CHARTS) 1. Open your .chrr file in Reference Rows (or chart file in BizInt Smart Charts). 2. If not already visible, use View | Columns to display source columns. These are the columns you will review to decide how to classify records. For this example, we will use Chemical/Biological Class, Molecule Type, Origin of Material, Other Actions, and Therapeutic Class Status. 3. Option 1 - add a column and manually create the categories: You can classify records manually. Use Edit | Add Column to add a new column. Double-click on the new column and rename it “Category”. Type text or copy and paste from another column. Use the same set of terminology to create the categories. 4. Option 2 - use VP-SCE to merge fields and combine terms: This method creates a custom thesaurus that can be used to create the same categories with other datasets. Use File | Export to export the chart as VantagePoint - Smart Charts Edition (creates a .vpxi file.) VANTAGEPOINT - SMART CHARTS EDITION 5. If the file does not launch automatically in VantagePoint - Smart Charts Edition (VP-SCE), then import the .vpxi file into VP SCE using Import from BizInt Smart Charts under the Home tab. 6. Merge source fields: Under the Refine tab, click on Merge Fields . Select and Add all of your chosen source fields: Chemical/ Biological Class, Molecule Type, Origin of Material, Other Actions, and Therapeutic Class Status:Class. Enter “Category Source” as the New Field Name and then click OK to create a new merged field. 7. Use List Cleanup to create the categories: Under the Refine tab, select List Cleanup. Rename the new field “Category.” Click OK to go the Cleanup Confirmation panel. Drag and drop items to combine them. You only need to combine terms for your categories. As you combine terms to create a category, right- click on the group name and choose Rename Item. Add an asterisk at the beginning of your groups for ease of identification. 8. When you are done creating categories, double-click on the Item Name column in either panel to sort. Select all the other unused terms as a group, right-click on the selection and choose Remove Item(s) from Final Field. 9. Click Save as Thesaurus and name your thesaurus. This can be used to automatically categorize another dataset . Click Accept. 10. Export the new field back to BizInt Smart Charts: Under the Report tab click on Export to BizInt Smart Charts . In the Export Wizard, click Deselect All and then select your new Category field. Click Export. BIZINT SMART CHARTS REFERENCE ROWS (OR BIZINT SMART CHARTS) 11. When Reference Rows comes to the foreground, select the original chart. It will redisplay with your new category field.

12. Review the category: review and edit the new column and make changes as needed to fill in blanks and so there is only one value for each drug. For example, one source classified the J&J vaccine as a DNA vaccine. You can edit the cell to delete that text to classify it solely as a Viral vector.
